The opening of the West Midlands Business Centre this month signifies Bibby Financial Services’ commitment, not only to Birmingham – where our new office is based – but also to the thriving local economies throughout the area including my home town of Wolverhampton.
The West Midlands has always been a great place to do business and – developing beyond our strong industrial heritage – over recent years the region’s central location and supporting infrastructure links to the rest of the UK and further afield, have put it firmly on the map as an important area for further inward investment. Businesses from around the world recognise the opportunities presented by having a presence in central England.
In economic terms, the area is still manufacturing heartland; the birthplace of Jaguar Land Rover and Cadbury, and home to many leading automotive giants, such as Bentley, Toyota, Rolls Royce and Aston Martin. However, with a varied spread of new and established companies within its boundaries, the region has built on its manufacturing roots and the business environment is now as diverse in its sectorial spread as it is in geography.
Healthcare, logistics, financial services, construction, digital and creative industries comprise just a few of the business types located from Staffordshire through to Warwickshire. Add to this a thriving technology sector in Greater Birmingham and growing service environments in Coventry and Wolverhampton, and it’s more than evident that the West Midlands is a hotspot for enterprise across the board.
Building Future Growth on a Heritage of Excellence
To coincide with the official opening of the West Midlands Business Centre on 8 October, our insight team has developed a report focusing on the business environment in the region. ‘Building Future Growth on a Heritage of Excellence’, contains the findings of a survey of over 1,000 SMEs throughout the county.
The research findings highlight a growing confidence among businesses in the West Midlands when compared with other regions in the UK and shows that over three quarter of SMEs (76%) invested in their business in the three months leading up to October. To find out where this investment was focused, download the full report for free here.
This research shows that throughout Q3, SMEs in the region have invested in training and recruitment and I believe it is these growing, ambitious businesses that will help to fuel further economic stability throughout the UK.
The report findings were featured on BBC Midlands Today on 7 October and the coverage included an interview with Sharon Wiltshire, Managing Director for the West Midlands. You can view the clip, here.
